The Calvary Chapel movement (www.calvarychapel.org) began in the mid-1960s, as Pastor Chuck Smith took over a small non-denominational church in Costa Mesa, California. Adopting a verse-by-verse style of teaching, and emphasizing both the power of God's Word and the present-day working of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Chuck saw the church begin to rapidly multiply. By the early 1970s, Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa was a central ministry in what came to be known as the “Jesus Movement.”
Four decades later, the Calvary Chapel movement includes more than 1400 churches worldwide, as well as a number of schools, colleges, radio stations, and missions organizations. While each church is independent, Calvary Chapel pastors share a commitment to the inerrancy of the Bible and to the expository teaching of God’s Word from Genesis to Revelation.
